Hungry Canary Waves Goodbye

bye 2

Well, it’s been fun. It truly has. But this little canary thinks it’s time to hang up her… er… feathers and pack up the nest. We want to thank everyone that’s helped us out and supported us and even just read the words we put on the screen. Wouldn’t have been as fun without you!

bye 1

If you’re thinking “but now how will I know about the sweet stuff popping up around Adelaide!!”, don’t worry! Not only are there a ton of great other blogs to follow, but I’m going to be writing other places as well! You can see the same sort of stuff I was doing here on my writer page at WeekendNotes as well as the odd article through What’s On In Adelaide.

bye 3

Just remember, there is an absolute parade of fun, creative, innovative, retro, funny, delicious, quirky, inspiring and other feelings a brain can have things to do in Adelaide all the time. Don’t think that as Mad March ends and the chilly weather begins, you’re going to be stumped for stuff to do. Oz Comic Con is next weekend, Roller Derby goes all the way through winter, smaller club footy games are champion, and further out, you’ve got wineries doing awesome events like Whistler Wines’ Stew and Shiraz event. Hit it all up, experience it, enjoy Adelaide. We’re the coolest. This inferiority complex that we have is totally ridiculous. Kick it to the curb. See you there!

bye 4

If you like the word vomit I spray, I’m going to be writing on How Not To Be A Jerk again on a regular basis and you can also peek into my profesh life at 10 Reasons to Hire An Amy. Thanks again for visiting. Love and Kisses, Amy Canary.

7 Ways to Keep Your Fringe Spirit Alive until April

My beloved Gluttony, my second home, what will I do without you??

My beloved Gluttony, my second home, what will I do without you??

Now that the Fringe is over, Adelaide goes back to being quiet and restful, right? WRONG! Even though the colourful artists and big tents have gone home, there is still a multitude of ways to live large in the city centre. If you’re anything like me, you already miss how lively things are when the Fringe is in town. Luckily for you, I did a bit of research and found a heap of activities you can do to extend the party just that little bit longer. It ain’t over til it’s over, bud. (more…)

The Adelaide Fringe at The Producer's Bar

A selection of the fab shows you can catch at Producer’s

The Producers Bar on Grenfell Street has fluffed the curtains, watered the plants, swept the beer garden and prepared the bar for the Adelaide Fringe to start. The historic venue just out of the hustle and bustle of Rundle Street is a great place to catch one of roughly a million possible shows. With so many great local, interstate and international shows all in the one fabulous old hotel, why wouldn’t you spend some time in The Producers Bar this Mad March?

The perfect place to start a night out, Proof will make you feel like you belong and get you ready to greet the night with gusto.

2KW Places You on the Top of the World

the view from 2kw

You too could sit atop the world (or at least, atop Adelaide)

If you’re as excited about all our new developments as I am, you’ve probably heard about Adelaide’s new rooftop bar, 2KW. It opened on Friday night and sits on top of Jamie’s Italian on King William Street. After enjoying all of our wonderful basement bars being so full of moody brilliance, I couldn’t wait to check out life on the other end of the world. Checking out what seemed to be a very hip, very modern cocktail bar overlooking leafy North Terrace was paramount to my future happiness, and let me tell you, it made me very, very happy. I’m willing to bet ten of my dollars that it will make you happy too*.

Night markets are another great choice for balmy summer evenings with bubs.

Night markets are another great choice for balmy summer evenings with bubs.

Luckily, the rest of Adelaide has been planning for that and have put on some excellent events to start your school holidays off with a bang! There are family food festivals, lights in Lobethal, hide and seek with Haydn, monster movie marathons and a special seaside summer carnival at Semaphore! What are you waiting for?

Croquet, Craft & Comics: What’s On in Adelaide this Weekend!

Adelaide old trams

The most iconic Adelaide picture I had on my phone.

It’s definitely coming into summer. Do you know how I can tell? I mean sure, I wore shorts in the rain today because I couldn’t face sweating in long pants when it got hot later, but that’s not it. It’s because each weekend is more packed full of great activities than the last one! Adelaide has so much on this weekend, and it all sounds spectacular! (more…)

Feast Festival! Hungry Canary’s how to guide to a fabulous time!

feast2014

Thats right, people of Adelaide, its FEAST, our LGBTIQ arts and culture festival once again! I’ve comprised a quick guide on how to spend your gay old time over the next two weeks!

Step 1. Leave any prejudices you may have at the door. Feast is not just for us big homos, or friends of homos or whatever sub-sect of odd-ball you may hail from. This festival is to be enjoyed by all, and it needs our patronage, so come out and do something different. There is nothing to fear- except maybe a little shade thrown by a sassy drag queen. But that’s all part of the FUN.
